Jemez Mountain Trail
The Jemez Mountain Trail was declared a National
Scenic and Historic Byway in 1998 in recognition of its fantastic
natural and cultural resources. Only an hour from Albuquerque,
the Trail is one of New Mexico's most spectacular scenic drives.
The Pueblo of Jemez, Walatowa Visitor Center, in
cooperation with the USFS Jemez Ranger District, disseminates information
about
the Santa Fe National Forest, the Jemez Mountain National Recreation
Area, the Jemez Mountain Trail National Scenic Byway and the newest
acquisition, the Valles Caldera National Preserve, formerly known
as the Baca Location.
Over
140 miles of beauty and magic abound with natural geological
formations, hot springs, hiking, skiing,
biking trails, fishing streams, campgrounds, Bandelier National
Monument and Jemez State Monument. Charming restaurants, Inns,
B&B's, gift shops, art galleries, a bath house and winery are
scattered along the Trail. Come enjoy the wonders of the Jemez
Mountain Trail.
